Panlong City tripod
Hu Jiaxi, the deputy research fellow of the cultural relics and
Archaeological Institute of Hubei Province, which is unearthed in
Panlong city of Huangpi District, reveals a little-known fact: the
national first level cultural relics and the famous Panlong city copper
tripod, which had been a pile of debris before the restoration. In
October 1989, the archaeological workstation of Panlong city was found
in the tombs of the Shang Dynasty, and found an unprecedented giant
bronze tripod. It is of great significance to the study of the
development level of the bronze casting process in the early Shang
Dynasty in China. Unfortunately, it has become a pile of debris when
unearthed. Roughly together also found that the lack of a tripod ears,
three foot deformity.
In 1991, Hu Jiaxi and two assistants began to repair the cultural
relics. Due to the large bronze deformation is serious, such as common
method of correction, is likely to make the fracture fragments. Later,
Hu Jiaxi used his invention of "heating and orthopedics", that is, to
put the deformation pieces into the dry box, slowly warm to 200 degrees
C, heat preservation for a period of time, to enhance the toughness of
the remnants and eliminate the internal stress produced after the
remnants of the orthopedics. After many times of heating and
orthopaedics, the deformed fragments are restored to original shape
slowly.
Later, they welded the fragments together, and then welded and welded
the defective parts with red copper. According to the relevant data, the
feet and ears of the tripod were filled. Lasted half a month, the big
tripod finally restored. In 1995, the tripod was identified as a
national heritage, is by far the largest copper tripod in China early
Shang dynasty. Soon, the Ding will be unveiled in the exhibition of
Panlong City, a newly completed comprehensive museum of Hubei Provincial
Museum.
